AES Philippines

AES is a global company that provides reliable and sustainable energy in 27 countries worldwide through its 28,000‐strong workforce that’s committed to excellence, safety and reliability. Everywhere it operates, the company believes that dependable electricity is essential to human progress and to advancing economic growth, public health and security.

As one of the world’s largest power companies, AES – the parent company of AES Philippines – owns and operates a diverse and growing portfolio of generation and distribution businesses with the capacity to serve 100 million people worldwide. Its power plants encompass a broad range of technologies and fuel types, from coal to gas to renewables such as wind, hydro and biomass.

Combining deep local insights, global presence and perspective, and a relentless commitment to operational excellence and values, it helps communities and countries grow through reliable and responsible electric power. It operates in extremely diverse markets, from the world’s most developed countries to some of the fastest growing economies.

In the Philippines, AES entered the market in 2008 through its acquisition of the 600-MW coal-fired thermal power plant in Masinloc, Zambales. The acquisition is a key component of the company’s direction to establish and grow its presence in the Philippines. The acquisition offered an excellent entry point into the competitive power market by refurbishing and rehabilitating the Masinloc plant to become one of Luzon’s most reliable and efficient base-load plants.

With ERC licenses for supply to the wholesale and contestable markets and for supply aggregation, the company supplies its 600 MW capacity to distribution utilities (private utilities and electric cooperatives), large industrial end-users, and the wholesale electricity spot market (WESM) in Luzon. AES Philippines is able to provide safe and reliable electricity supply from a menu of products from which customers may choose supply arrangements suitable or customized for their specific needs.

The company attributes its success in the Philippines to the unwavering commitment of its people and partners in delivering excellent results every day. The successful turnaround of the Masinloc Power Facility underscores the commitment and dedication of the AES Philippines people to deliver reliable power to its customers.

This remarkable turnaround of the company brought about recognition from worldwide institutions. The Edison Electric Institute gave AES Philippines the Edison Award under the International Affiliate Category. The Asian Power Awards also gave recognition to the Masinloc Power facility as the Best Independent Power Producer in Asia (Gold Award), Best Project Upgrade in Asia (Silver Award) and Best Operations and Maintenance Project in Asia (Silver or Award). Power Magazine, on the other hand, recognized the plant as one of the top ten coal-fired power plants in the world.

To AES, this means that wherever the company operates, it will always do what it does best in pursuit of excellence, integrity, safety, and reliability. Every day, this philosophy is put into practice in AES locations all over the world.
